Social Media Shenanigans:Catty Comments

Don’t we all wish we could have a comment manager like some large brands do so that we keep ourselves out of hot water? I most certainly do! There have been times when I have had to chuck my phone far away from my overactive fingers to prevent myself from commenting on a post. Comments that I know will be to my utter detriment if I press send.
Take that time I casually commented on someone’s post by joking about finding nothing wrong with using paper plates and cups instead of having to torture myself with washing up. Suddenly a person who wasn’t even my friend jumped down my throat about my senseless act that was destroying the planet. I responded with another joke only to be called an irresponsible so and so. Boy was I steamed until I realised that any further engagement was feeding this person’s shoddy lack of etiquette. I deleted my comments and made sure to never joke on that person’s page again.
Here’s some thoughts on comments and how I try to keep myself out of trouble.
Moderate comments
Check your posts to ensure that some zealous person has not commented inappropriately and that negative comment has been viewed by all your friends and followers. Hide comments if you have to. I am a firm believer of deleting comments if people are intent on being miserable!
Shake it off
There will always be people ready to attack you on your posts. If it becomes detrimental to your reputation, block them and move on. There’s enough negativity and stress in our lives without it becoming an issue on social media platforms too.
Address it
Back to my example of the planet saver-if it was my page I would have addressed that person privately that my post was not meant to become their personal crusade. It is after all my page and my post and I am allowed to let you know if you are crossing boundaries. Of course, there are people who enjoy the discord from the sidelines. I’m not one of them.
My final thoughts on this would be:
Do delete posts if you find it’s causing unnecessary strife and tense debate
Do encourage people who feel strongly about an issue to take it up privately with persons concerned or to take it up on their own pages
Do apply common sense before you comment
